Box Score FULTON, MISS. - Principia men's soccer's hopes of making it to the playoffs were dashed as they fell to Westminster College 1-0 in double overtime. The loss means regardless of what happens in other match-ups in conference play, the Panthers face tough odds to get to the playoffs despite still being mathematically eligible. Overtime has been an achilles heel for the Panthers over the last few years and this evening was no exception. The game was a dour defensive stalemate with neither team taking many risks going forward. As a consequence, build up play and possession was largely inconsistent from both sides. The Panthers closest chance was an indirect kick in the box after the keeper handled a back pass. The Panthers effort was however blocked without being much of a threat. The Blue Jays would then force
Matt Jones to come up with a goal-saving kick before the half. The second half and the overtime periods were a continuation of the same until he Panthers were exposed on the backside and failure to close the attacker allowed an uncontested shot that found the back of the net for the game winner. Principia will next host Spalding University on Thursday night at 8:00 pm in their final home game which also marks senior night.
