Box Score ST. LOUIS, MO. -- The volleyball team started out with solid play in game one hitting .282 as a team and picking up 22 digs. Fontbonne's big hitter managed to put down 10 kills in game one alone. The Panthers were determined to contain her better, and held her to five kills the second game, and then three and under for the remainder of the match. However, that is not the lead-in to a simple happy ending. Game two was in control and a simple 25-21 win, but the Panthers had to fight with all of their might for the rest of the victory. Principia had too many serve receive errors, and had too hard a time siding out in games three and four. The Panthers had trouble executing the simplest things, and it opened the door wide for Fontbonne to swing and defend their way back into the match. Fontbonne won games three and four. Game five was a bit tense, but the Panthers led almost the entire way and took the match with a 15-12 win. Prin had a wonderful gym full of supportive fans that made it impossible to give in to the seeming momentum of too many unforced errors. The women righted the ship and went on to snatch the victory.
This was another team victory for sure.
Lily Richards gets the MVP of the game, as she played bold and with conviction. She was focused and confident, and gave the rest of the team a reason to stay in that positive place mentally. She was pounding balls and ended up with a career high 13 kills, hitting .333. Jess Bushong added a powerful 11 kills, and
Tess Rountree scored a double-double with 18 kills and 25 digs, as well as two solo blocks.
Sierra Sprague and
Sara Stephenson were a force at the net combining for 5 block assists and a couple of solo blocks. The team served 93% while staying bold on the line.
Savanna Sprague and
Summer Switzer were 100% from the service line, and they picked up 18 and 22 digs respectively!
