Principia women's soccer earns second conference victory

Box Score ELSAH, ILL. - It was a windy but sunny day on the bluffs, and the MacMurray Highlanders travelled over with only 10 players. As the game started, the Panthers came out with more energy and movement than their last game. Principia's attack generated from the wing backs who made overlapping runs, did give and goes with midfielders and forwards and then either crossed or shot. The Panthers first goal resulted from a buildup in which freshman left back, Clarice Bruch was able to combine with junior midfielder, Justine Roy, who crossed it into the box toward the Highlander keeper, but freshman center forward, Emelie Fredrikson, was there to get the rebound and score. After this initial goal, head coach, Jess Semnacher also dropped down to 10 players.
Fredrikson ended up scoring a hat trick in today's game: 2nd minute of play, 6th, and 22nd. Other goals for the Panthers were scored by sophomore, Claire Horton in the 9th minute, freshman, Tanya Marquardt in the 35th, freshman, Emma Dixon in the 40th, and 71st, junior, Gabby Martin in the 47th, and sophomore Katie Swarts in the 70th, which was also her first collegiate goal. The game ended a 9-0 victory for the Panthers.
In goal, sophomore, Rachel Perea stepped into the box for the first half. Facing only one corner kick and a back pass, she wasn't tested too much. Second half, junior, Kara Johnson took over and similarly supplied back support for the Principia defensive line. Both earned a shared shutout for the Panthers, their second of the season.
The women play next Saturday October, 11th at 1:00 at Greenville.
