Box Score 2 ST. LOUIS, MO -- After a 3 game loss to Webster a week and half ago, Prin knew they could compete better. The women went after it today, and executed the game plan well – fighting until the end when Webster earned the "w" with a 17-15 game five decision. The Panthers did a nice job of keeping the ball flying in a smart way until it was time for their "kaboom" ball. Prin made Webster's backcourt work hard as they neutralized the Webster block, and all the while turning up the volume on their own net play with Tess Rountree tallying 7 solo blocks, and Lily and Sierra adding a couple of blocks each! Prin passed the ball well with everyone statting out at 2.4-2.7 out of 3.0, and this allowed the offense to purr! Setter Savanna Sprague distributed the ball well, mixing it up and finding the hitters at their hottest. 100% serving from Savanna, Lily Richards, and Emma Herman set the stage for the consistent play the Panthers were after. Kudos to libero Summer Switzer who picked up a career high 39 digs, which puts her at #2 all time for Digs in a five game match.
The highlight of the match was a gutsy and well executed come from behind victory in game two. Prin was down 4-10 and 9-17, and then point by point the women battled to close the gap and had the game tied by 20-20. Prin stayed calm and cool and just played the game, embracing the chaos that always comes near the end of the game, and Prin took it 25-23. This victory helped Prin flex their "believe" muscle, and that muscle was responsible for a back and forth 29-27 victory in game three! Even though the Panthers came up two points short in game five, the team proved they have outgrown some old barriers, and that was inspiring.
In the match against Fontbonne, Prin outhit Fontbonne .224 to .086, and kept their hitting errors to a stellar 7% compared to Fontbonne's 20%. The beautiful thing was that Prin struggled with 15% hitting error in game one, and then made the decision that they would commit to the game plan and be "patiently bold" on offense, and then they executed as plannedJ. Sierra Sprague had a great serving match with 100% in and 3 aces as well. Lily Richards was also 100% from the line. The Panthers tightened up their game and gave their "believe" muscle another good workout as they stayed in control of the match and earned the "w". The offense was wonderfully diverse with the whole stable scoring well – Tess with 20 kills, Jess Bushong with 10, Lily and Sierra 7 each, and Molly Moser with 3.
We would LOVE to have you cheer us on this Monday night against Lincoln Christian at 6pm – that is right, 6pm! See you there.
