Lady Panthers lose to Greenville in Season Finale

Box Score

Tonight the Principia Panthers traveled to take on the Greenville Panthers in their final game of the season. Coming off of an inspiring win on Senior Day, Principia looked to end the season on a high note with two straight victories. However, Greenville had other ideas, and wore Principia down in the second half, winning by a score of 60-48.

Principia came out of the gates extremely sluggish, building themselves a big hole, as they trailed early 11-2. However, after a timeout, Principia really started to play some inspired defense and quickly chipped away at the lead. With about 6 minutes left in the half, Principia had taken a 23-15 lead in the game, and looked to be in control. Unfortunately, some sloppy execution on offense led to some defensive breakdowns, causing their lead to dwindle. Principia still went into halftime with a 28-27 lead over Greenville.

In the second half, Greenville came out in a zone defense that really gave Principia some trouble. That coupled with a lack of defensive execution, allowed Greenville to take control of the game. A last gasp effort by the girls proved to be futile, as they lost by a score of 60-48.

Principia was led by three players who finished in double figures. Becca DeNicholas finished with 11 points, Rachel Perea finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Karina Olsen finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds.

These ladies had a tremendous season of growth in both skill as well as character. We will miss our lone senior, Hayley Cooke, as she has been such an inspiring teammate this season. Look out in 2014-2015, because his team will be a force to be reckoned, as they will continue to grow as young women and as basketball players.
