Principia Men's Basketball 51 Iowa Wesleyan 52

Box Score Saturday afternoon, the Tigers of Iowa Wesleyan traveled to Principia College for a conference contest. It was a good day for basketball. There were several lead changes throughout the night with Iowa going in to the locker room with a 2 point lead at halftime. Principia came out in the second half to take the lead and extend it to 10 points. However Iowa gradually chipped away and took a 2 point lead with 20 seconds left. Principia used a time out to set up a final play. It worked to perfection with Larry Patterson hitting the go ahead 3 with 10 seconds left. Iowa fought back and earned two freethrows on a foul with less than a second left on the clock. Trey Politte cooly sank both freethrows to give Wesleyan the victory. Although Principia scored 5 more baskets on the night than Iowa, the Panthers could not overcome the differential at the line with Wesleyan shooting 24 freethrows to Principia's 7. Kenny Sydness led the Panthers with 21 points on 9 - 21 shooting. He also had 9 rebounds. Larry Patterson led the Panthers in rebounds with 11 from the point guard position - a remarkable performance. Principia will next travel to St. Louis College of Pharmacy for a non-conference game on Tuesday night. Game time will be 8:00.
