Principia women's tennis played tough in a long day of tennis. The team started out the day with a 6-3 win over Hardin-Simmons. The lady panthers were down 2-1 after losing a very close match, 9-8, at #1 doubles. In singles,
Carlie Sanderude lost the first set 6-3 but came back strong playing attacking tennis in the second set which she won 6-1. Carlie closed out the third set 6-3.
In a very close match at #5 singles,
Lily Richards won the first set 6-3 but lost the second 6-1. The third set was a battle with each player breaking the opponents serve often. Richards was down 5-3 but came back to take the third set tie-breaker 7-6. It was the first singles match victory for Lily who is improving her play with each competition.
An hour after the end of the morning match, the Principia women took to the courts for their second match of the day against Biola University, a NAIA Division team.
Hanne Andersen posted the only two victories for the team against Biola. Hanne and her partner
Carlie Sanderude played well to win 8-2 at #1 doubles and redress their morning loss. Hanne followed her doubles win with a decisive handling of her #2 singles opponent.
Caitlin Carney playing #6 singles came back from a first set loss to take the second set but she could not get the win after battling in the third set super tiebreaker.
The Principia Women have their final match of spring break on Friday March 14
th against University of the South at Sewanne, the # 16 team in the nation.
