Panthers hold on for wild victory 13-11

In a bounce back game the Panthers hold on to defeat Cornell College. The game lasted 5 hours and included a rain delay. Junior Christian Thomas got the start and battled to give the Panthers four innings of work pitching before and after the rain delay. Cornell got off to a fast start scoring four runs in the first inning. The Panthers answered back with four runs of their own in the second inning. Connor Coyne lead off the inning and reached base after being hit by the pitch. Bryce Murray also reached after being hit by a pitch, Tyler Nichoson walked to load the bases for Ed Bargmann. Ed singled in the first run, and Christian Thomas plated the second run with an RBI single. Gavin Thomas grounded into a fielder's choice scoring the third run of the inning and the Panthers scored their fourth run on a throwing error by the pitcher.

In the fourth inning the Panthers had another big inning scoring six runs and batted around. Bryce Murray got the inning started with a single. Ed Bargmann walked, Christian Thomas singled, and Gavin Thomas singled to drive in two runs. Scott Ross singled to drive in another run and Dallen Russell hit into a fielder's choice to score the fourth run of the inning. Connor Coyne was hit by a pitch and Logan McDowell hit a sacrifice fly to drive in a run, and Bryce Murray singled for the second time in the inning driving in the sixth run of the inning.

Cornell added two runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the lead to 10-6. Junior Dallen Russell came in the fifth inning and dealt. Dallen pitched a strong 3 2/3 innings and keep Cornell scoreless for three innings. Cornell was finally able to break through against Dallen scoring two runs in the 8th to cut the lead to 10-8. Freshman Hunter Mehring came in relief and was able to work out of a bases loaded jam. The Panthers added three huge insurance runs in the top of the 9th inning. The Panthers took advantage of two Cornell errors. Cornell scored two runs in the 9th, but Hunter Mehring was able to get the final out to preserve the victory 13-11 and earn the save. Dallen Russell earned the win and it was a great team effort from the Panthers.
