ELSAH, ILL. --
Principia women's tennis completed two matches starting at Washington University at 9:30 AM and competing at home against Augustana at 6:15 PM. Both teams are regionally ranked and Washington University St Louis is currently # 9 in the Nation. The women competed well in both matches.
The highlight of the morning matches against Washington University was senior
Carlie Sanderude's #1 singles match. She won the first set 6-2 winning 5 straight games after falling behind 1-2. In the second set, her opponent played steadier tennis and won 6-0. In the third set Carlie was down 5-3 and her opponent had a match point. Carlie won three games to go ahead in the third set 6-5. With most points lasting 12 to 15 shots the match was leveled at 6-6. In the tie-breaker Carlie played some fantastic points but made a few errors and lost 7-2.
Against Augustana, the #3 duo of
Meg Andersen and
Justine Roy pulled out the only doubles victory with an 8-6 win. In singles,
AC McMullen playing #4 defeated her opponent in straight sets. AC played a versatile game of volleys and steady baseline strokes while also delivering some excellent lobs.
The women's tennis team has three matches in the coming week. Tuesday they are away at Blackburn, but they play at home on Thursday and Saturday. They will play Fontbonne and Wheaton, #13 in the regional rankings.
