ELSAH, ILL. -- Game 1: Benedictine – 1 Principia – 5 What a well played game this was by Principia. It wasn't spectacular just really solid. It was the first time in a long time that all 3 facets of the game, hitting, defense and pitching were all there. Not only were they all there, they were there for all 7 innings. It was helpful to get another starter back in the lineup and that definitely made a difference. It was also good to see the offense get back in gear and hit the ball well.
The offensive player of the game was
Tori Cheatham who went 3 for 3, scored a run and had 2 RBI's.
Thanda Kyaw and Sam Bronkar also had multiple hit games with both of them recording 2 hits. Thanda scored a run while Sam drove in 2 runs with her triple.
Casey Lee had a hit and scored a run and
Christine Nacewicz had a sacrifice and scored a run.
Game 2: Benedictine – 11 Principia – 4 Where did the defense go? The difference between game 1 and game 2 from a defensive standpoint was alarming. It was hard to keep track of all the physical and mental errors made in this game. Based on earned runs this game was actually close and it should have been a close game on the scoreboard. Sam Bronkar did her job on the pitching mound and eventually the offense got going but the defense cost Principia a chance to win game two.
Ashley Shoemake broke out of a slump with 2 hits, a run scored and an RBI.
Casey Lee,
Christine Nacewicz,
Tori Cheatham and
Genevieve Smith all had a hit with Tori scoring a run and Casey driving in two runs. Jessy MacMullin crushed two balls but an outstanding play by the second baseman in each case cost her a hit.
Panthers continue play this Saturday for two away games at Westminster.
