Box Score 2 FULTON, MO. -- Game – 1 Westminster – 7 Principia – 0This was a disappointing effort in that the defense played very poorly and then allowed that to affect the offense. For a team that usually makes good contact at the plate to have 12 strike outs in this game tells a tale. Only one person got a hit in this game and that was
Casey Lee's triple. The team was flat and just not there mentally and it showed on the scoreboard. The recent pattern of giving up a big inning due to defensive lapses showed up again in this game.
Game - 2 Westminster – 16 Principia – 8 in 6 inningsOffensively the team woke up for this one and played well. They faced the same pitcher that had hand-cuffed them in game one and by the 3
rd inning had already gotten 6 hits off of her. This goes to show what a change in one's mental approach can do!
The team was leading 7-2 after 3 innings and playing very well but unfortunately defensive lapses did them in again as they gave up another big inning to let Westminster back in the game and were still in a fog an inning later and repeated things all but handing the game over to Westminster.
Defensively the team is having to play a number of people out of position due to injuries, personal obligations and class trips. The team has not been able to put its starting lineup out in the field since the 1
st week of the season and that certainly has contributed to the mental lapses and abnormal number of errors that are happening in the field.
Thanda Kyaw was the offensive star in this one going 4 for 4, scoring a run, stealing a base and had an RBI.
Ashley Shoemake was the other multiple hit player as she was 2 for 4 and had 2 RBI's.
Casey Lee,
Christine Nacewicz and
Tori Cheatham each got a hit and scored.
