Box Score TERRE-HAUTE, IND. -- The Principia men's soccer team found the going rough as they were outplayed for long spells by a steady and well organized Kalamazoo College. The Panthers came out playing positive soccer and were almost rewarded in the second minute of play as senior captain
McGuire Semnacher combined well with fellow senior
Nate Waters to find an opening on the left side of the pitch. Nate dribbled past two defenders before unleashing a shot that sailed effortlessly over the cross bar from the eighteen. In the 3rd minute of play, Kalamazoo would find a gap at the near post of the Panther's defense and slot in for the lead. The Panthers would pick up the pieces and claw their way through excellent ball movement with combos from the mids and forwards but once again, the final pass would fail them. Kalamazoo would seal the Panther's fate when they picked off an errant pass from a Panther defender and struck one time to the far post to double the lead. The second half was much of the same with a 46th minute screamer from 40 yards that caught a battered
Gavin Thomas off guard in goal. The season opener was however a good showing overall, with notable performances from rookies
David Bader,
Briggs Hurley and
Pierson Gill.
Ian Carlson also got his first showing keeping steady in goal as he filled in for an injured Thomas in goal. The Panther's face Alma College on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm to wrap up the weekend in Terre Haute, Indiana.
