Box Score 2 ST. PAUL, MN. -- In day two at the Bethel Invitational, Principia took the court against Concordia Moorhead and host Bethel University. Both teams were hard hitting, big blocking teams that demanded the best Principia could muster! In the end, Principia fell 23-25, 26-24, 18-25, 22-25 to Concordia.
After a bit of a slow start, Prin competed well, taking Concordia out of system a lot.
Savanna Sprague did a great job putting together Prin's offense to capitalize on Concordia's out of system play.
Tess Rountree led the attack with 23 kills,
Lily Richards with 7,
Sierra Sprague with 6, and
Molly Moser and
Savanna Sprague each added 5. Five Panthers dug in the double digits - Tess with 21, Molly with 12, Summer and Emma with 11, and Sierra came through with 10. Prin definitely dug in their heels, but Concordia's consistent pounding won in the end.
Prin rounded out tournament play against Bethel, but the Panthers made too many errors to stay competitive. With 17% hitting error and 10 errors from the service line, it was impossible to make up the difference against such a strong competitor. Once again, Principia volleyballers never gave up – the women found the discipline to stick with the gameplan and the courage to work it. Tess and Sierra were strong with 12 and 7 kills respectively, and Summer and Savanna led the defense with 16 and 11 digs.
A weekend of great team work and gritty play for the lady Panthers. Next Saturday they travel to Greenville to begin SLIAC competition.
