Principia 70, Blackburn 72 in Overtime

Box Score CARLINVILLE, ILL. - In a hard fought conference match-up, the Principia Panthers fell to the Blackburn Beavers by the final score of 70 - 72 in overtime. Principia led most of the game, but when Freshman star Parker Davidson fouled out of the game with 4:41 left in regulation the Beavers made their final run from 7 down to tie the game with 10 seconds left. After a time out Principia got the last shot at the buzzer but it fell short to send the game into overtime. Blackburn came out strong to take a 7 point lead into the final minute of overtime, but Principia fought back to within 2 points with 8.3 seconds left on the clock. Their final play worked to perfection with a point blank shot at front rim, but the ball kicked off the back heel as the buzzer sounded. Principia won the rebounding battle 42-30, the assist battle 21-17, and in fact scored 3 more baskets than Blackburn, but Blackburn's hot 3-point shooting, 12-29, made the difference. Larry Patterson once again was a great floor general and had 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Parker Davidson had 14 points and 9 rebounds before fouling out late in the game. Justin Ball led all scorers with 26 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 blocks, and 1 steal. Principia will next travel to Eureka College for a conference game on Tuesday night, January 13th. Tip-off is 8:00 pm.
