Box Score Jacksonville, ILL. -- The Principia women's soccer team travelled to MacMurray College for their final game of the season. Although it didn't rain heavily, the conditions of the muddy and slippery field made it difficult for Principia to find their rhythm. In the first half, Prin played fairly safe by over-covering each other on defense and being cautious on offense. The Panthers finally broke through in the 40th minute when senior,
Nadine Marczi, assisted a quick pass from inside the muddy middle to Madi Arens on the flank. Madi drove dribbling to the 18-yard box and made a shot far post that hit the inside of the post and went into the net. The score at half was 1-0 for Principia.
After Principia's half time talk, the team returned to the pitch with the goal of having fun and playing joyfully together one last time. Within five minutes of each other,
Emelie Fredrikson took 2 corner kicks and
Rachel Perea was there to follow up a deflection for the first goal and redirect the ball out of the air and into the net for the second goal. Lastly,
Nadine Marczi capped the goal scoring for the night with a shot within the 18-yard box, slipping as she released the ball. Principia was all smiles as teammates slipped at different points in the second half, only to get back up and keep playing with joy and appreciation for each other. As the whistle blew to conclude the match, the team collected for hugs and a photo op in their mud-drenched jerseys. The coaches were proud of the team and the way they finished their season with a standard higher than victory.
