Women Swim Well in Opening Loss to Lincoln College

LINCOLN, IL – The women's swimming and diving team opened their meet season with a loss to Lincoln College, 57 – 139, but put up some solid times to start the season.  While the women's team was outnumbered by the Lincoln College team, there were some great races which led to some good times for this early in the season.

The women started well with a second place in the 200 Medley relay as a couple of team members swam their first collegiate meet – sophomore Amanda Loudon led off with the backstroke leg and freshman Gwen Battram swam the freestyle to anchor the relay.  Next, junior Bailey Bischoff took to the water next for her first ever 1000 swim.  She did well finishing in 13:46.41.  A couple of events later the women swam to a couple of bests.  Senior Dani Mc Kenzie swam a lifetime best 25.40 in the 50 Free while Battram earned a season best in the same event with a 38.81.

In diving, sophomore Caidi Gillett took second on 1-meter with a lifetime best score of 144.85.  Later on Bischoff and Loudon added season best times of their own in the 100 Back.  Bischoff went 1:12.19 and Loudon went 1:21.95.  In the 100 Breast, junior captain Shelby Barner swam a 1:22.50 to earn a season best time for her.

The team will be back in action next week – Saturday, November 7 – when they travel to Illinois College to take on three other teams (Illinois College, Knox College and Millikin Univeristy) in a quad meet starting at 1 pm.
