ELSAH, IL – The women's swimming and diving team hosted their first home meet of the season on Saturday against Franklin College and Lindenwood-Belleville. While they lost to both teams, they swam well, earning season best times and scores across the board.
The team continues to get better and stronger as they lead up to their big fall meet in two weeks. The team has progressed in the past two weeks, and we expect even better performances in coming weeks.The meet started strong with three out of four women earning season bests splits on the 200 Medley relay. Shelby Barner (50 Breast – 35.74), senior
Dani Mc Kenzie (50 Fly – 28.26) and freshman
Allegra Pierce (50 Free – 25.53) all earned season best on the way to a 2:02.06 finish. Mc Kenzie continued her great swimming with a 25.38 in the 50 Free which earned her a second place and a lifetime best time. Freshman
Yasmin Mendoza earn a season best in the 50 free as well with a 31.87.
Sophomore
Rachael Schueler dove to a season best score of 102.45 in the 1-meter diving event. Sophomore
Caidi Gillett dove to a season best score of her own of 135.40 in the 3-meter diving event.
Mc Kenzie and Mendoza continued to swim well in their next events. Mc Kenzie won the 100 Fly in 1:03.30 which was a season best time. Mendoza earned her second season best time with a 1:15.13 in the 100 Free. The final season best performance came from Barner in the 100 Breast with her 1:20.47.
It was a meet with tough competition but the team responded with some good performances of their own.
The team will be off for Thanksgiving weekend but will return to competition on Dec 4 & 5 at the Pioneer Classic at Grinnell College in Grinnell, IA.
