Box Score LOUISVILLE, KY. - This weekend the Principia College women's basketball team traveled to Louisville, Ky to face conference-leading opponent Spalding University in their second meeting of the season. Despite a reasonably strong first half, (the Panthers were down just 13 at half) the overall performance from Principia was lacking in energy, which become most apparent on defense and in the rebounding column (Spalding won the rebounding battle 44-26 on the game). Spalding ended with 71 total points which was right around their season average, while Principia was held well below theirs, ending with 41. There were some brief individual spurts of good basketball though, and Principia certainly showed flashes of the basketball they are capable of playing. But in the end the Eagles and the SLIAC's 2nd leading scorer Kayla Styles proved too much for the Panthers. Notable statistical contributions include freshman shooting guard Yulia Marquardt who turned in a game high 12 points, and senior captain Karina Olsen who was the sole Panther with double-digit boards, snatching 11 total.
Principia plays next at home this coming Tuesday against the Panthers of Greenville College. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
