Box Score ELSAH, ILL. - Tonight the Principia College women's basketball team hosted the Greenville College Panthers in their second meeting of the season. Needing a victory in order to keep their tournament hopes alive, Principia came out with a renewed energy, playing some of the best team defense they have displayed so far this season. After a hard fought, highly physical first twenty minutes, both Panther squads headed to the locker room at a draw, tied with a score of 24-24.
The second half was almost as competitve as the first, marred by a lapse in defensive efficiency by Principia to start the half, which allowed Greenville to build a double-digit lead before Principia was able to refocus. While the home Panther squad did climb back into the game offensively as the clock continued to tick, the lapse proved too costly, and Greenville came away with the critical victory (they were also vying for the last conference tournament slot) by a score of 58-52. The game represented a significant and unfied team effort on the part of Principia, and notable statistical contributions included sophomore forward
Rachel Perea with 10 points, junior foward
Kara Johnson with a game high 15 points, and senior captain
Karina Olsen with her latest double-double performance (10 points, 12 boards). Olsen also dished out a game high five assists.
Principia plays next this coming Saturday, February 21st, at Iowa Wesleyan. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
