Fullerton, CA - Today, the Principia men's tennis team played their third and final match of spring break against Hope International University. Playing singles first, the Panthers came out strong and took advantage of the shortage of men for Hope International. Principia came away with a 7-2 victory, finishing their spring break on a high note.
At 1st singles,
Jason Wissman played a tough match against a very high level competitor. Wissman took the first set to find his rhythm and played a very good second set. After breaking to get back on serve in the second set, Wissman was unable to hold serve and fell to his tough opponent, 6-1, 7-5. At second singles,
Joey Sander continued improving and finding his footing on the tennis court. Sander played remarkably well this spring break and came away with a big 6-3, 6-2 victory.Â
At 3rd singles,
Nate Waters also continued his great play on this spring break. Waters is getting more and more consistent and is putting pressure on his opponent on the court. He came away with a 6-3, 6-3 win. At 4th singles,
Daniel Drake dropped the first set, but picked his game up in the second set. After rolling to a 6-2 second set victory, Drake was unable to secure the win in the tiebreaker. Drake fell 6-2, 2-6, 10-8. At 5th singles,
Andrew Rohrer played his best match of spring break. His steady play kept his opponent frustrated and off balance. Rohrer won 6-2, 6-0.
At 2nd doubles,
Jason Wissman and
Daniel Drake fell behind quickly. By the time their play picked up, it was too late. They fell 8-4. At 1st doubles,
Joey Sander and
Nate Waters followed up their singles wins with an impressive win in doubles. Sander and Waters battled all match until it was 7-7. They stepped their game up another notch in the crucial moments and took the match with a 9-7 victory.Â
The Panthers travel back from California tomorrow. Their next match is on Saturday, March 21st at national powerhouse, Washington University.
