St. Louis, MO- Today, the Principia Men's Tennis Team took on Washington University in St. Louis. Wash U is ranked 5th in division 3 and provided a stiff test for this Panther squad. The Panthers played well at times throughout the match, but Wash U was too steady and did not give the Panthers many free points. Despite the 9-0 loss, the Principia men come away with good experience, and they are ready for SLIAC play.
The best play of the day came from 1st and 2nd singles. At 2nd singles,
Joey Sander played a really good first set against Ross Putterman of Wash U. Sander mixed up offensive and defensive tactics, keeping Putterman off balance. Although Sander lost 6-3, 6-0, he played very well throughout. At 1st singles,
Jason Wissman played a great second set against his opponent. Wissman's offensive game was some of the best in his career. He dictated play and kept his opponent on his heels. Unfortunately, the tie breaker did not end up going his way as he fell 6-2, 7-6.
Conference play is next up for the Panthers as they take on Webster University. They play on Tuesday, March, 24th at 5:00 PM at Principia College.
