Elsah, IL- Today, the Principia Men's Tennis Team started off their conference play against Webster University. The Panthers played a tough non conference schedule to get them prepared for the SLIAC season and it showed today in their 9-0 win over the Webster Gorloks. This win moves Principia to 3-5 overall and 1-0 in SLIAC play.
At 1st doubles,
Joey Sander and
Nate Waters came out aggressive, controlling the net and dominating with an endless amount of overheads. They came away with a 8-1 victory. At 2nd doubles,
Jason Wissman and
Daniel Drake used their strong serves to overpower their opponents. They also came away with a 8-1 win. At 3rd doubles,
Andrew Rohrer and Nick Flanders were able to control the rallies and eventually put the ball away, as they won by a score of 8-2.
At 1st singles,
Jason Wissman played very steadily and was able to finish many of his points off at net. Wissman won 6-0, 6-0. At 2nd singles,
Joey Sander dominated the groundstroke rallies and made very few errors. Sander won 6-0, 6-0. At 3rd singles,
Nate Waters used his heavy groundstrokes to get into net. He finished off most of his points at net as he was rewarded for his aggressive play. Waters won 6-0, 6-0. At 4th singles,
Daniel Drake struggled to find his rhythm in the beginning, but eventually was able to take control of the match. Drake came away with a 6-4, 6-3 victory. At 5th singles,
Andrew Rohrer played very consistently all match long. His serve, groundstrokes, and volleys all were very solid. Rohrer won 6-2, 6-1. At 6th singles,
Nicholas Flanders played the best tennis of his young collegiate career. Flanders dominated from the ground and put himself in position to finish the points at net. Flanders won 6-2, 6-2.
Principia does not play again until next Tuesday, March 31st against SLIAC opponent Fontbonne University. This match will be played at 6:00 PM at Shaw Park in St. Louis.
