Men's Tennis falls in tough match to Missouri Baptist

St. Louis, MO - In their final match before the SLIAC Conference Tournament, Principia Men's Tennis took on Missouri Baptist in a hard fought contest. Despite taking two of three doubles matches, the Panthers were unable to come away with the win, falling 6-3 to this tough NAIA opponent.


At 1st doubles, Joey Sander and Nate Waters started slow, falling behind an early break, but soon got back on track by reeling off five straight games to go up 5-2. Sander and Waters continued their solid play, taking the match 8-5. At 2nd doubles, Jason Wissman and Daniel Drake played their best match of the year against a strong pair of opponents. They dominated their service games and had some excellent return games as well. They came away with a 8-4 victory. At 3rd doubles, Andrew Rohrer and Nicholas Flanders fought hard throughout their match. They kept the ball in throughout, but were unable to take over the net. They fell 8-4. 


At 1st singles, Jason Wissman was unable to find his rhythm in his match. Wissman went up 4-3 in the first set, but was unable to get anything going from there. He fell 6-4, 6-1. At 2nd singles, Joey Sander played against a very tough opponent. Sander fought hard, and cut a 5-1 lead in the second set to 5-4, but was unable to complete the comeback. Sander lost 6-3, 6-4. At 3rd singles, Nate Waters played the best singles match for the Panthers on this day. Waters was consistent and fought hard all the way throughout his match. Waters won 6-4, 7-5.


At 4th singles, Daniel Drake was unable to find the consistency he has shown in the last two weeks. He fell 6-3, 6-2. At 5th singles, Andrew Rohrer played an excellent second set to tie up his match at one set apiece. However, he was unable to to win the third, falling 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. At 6th singles, Nicholas Flanders played tough in many points, but could not garner enough to earn many games. Flanders lost 6-1, 6-0. 


Principia next plays on Friday April 24th at 2:00 PM in the SLIAC Semi-Finals. The match will be played at Forest Park in St. Louis at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center. The Panthers will be looking to earn their second straight SLIAC Championship.
