Box Score Elsah, Ill. -- The women lose another heartbreaker against Rose Hulman 2-0. The Panthers came out strong tonight, dictating the pace of the game in the first half. Rose Hulman had some talented players but the Panther defense kept those players from creating dangerous scoring opportunities. However, due to the Panther's inability to score, the score remained 0-0 until the closing of the first half when Rose Hulman was awarded a corner kick. A lack of defensive authority in the box as the ball bounced around inside the 6 allowed Rose Hulman to cap their first goal. The half ended with Principia trailing by one.
The second half was back and forth as Rose Hulman, being up by one, had the momentum. Mid-way through the second half, the Panthers gave up another goal due to a defensive breakdown and lack of marking. Nonetheless, the women fought on and gave Rose Hulman a few scares. The Panthers had a one-on-one situation inside the 18 but the Rose Hulman keeper did a nice job making the save. Another opportunity came when freshman
Madison Arens dribbled and took a shot right outside the 18. All in all it was a fight for both teams but wasn't enough to give Principia a win tonight.
Shout out to three Principia players who worked really hard and never let up;
Rachel Perea,
Madison Arens, and
Nadine Marczi. Another shout out to
Claire Horton, welcome back to the backline! Your composure and grace in the back is a calming presence.
The Panthers play their next game this Saturday, September 26th at the Soccer Park in St. Louis. Mo. against Webster University.
