Box Score Fenton, MO. – On Saturday afternoon, Principia College men's soccer traveled to Soccer Park in Fenton, Missouri to face the Webster University Gorlocks in their first conference game of the season. The final score finished at 2-2 after double overtime, and was a thrilling match from top to bottom.
Principia looked in form from the beginning; stringing together good passes that gave them scoring opportunities. After a Webster penalty kick goal, the Panthers leveled the score at 1-1 in the 41
st minute when
Briggs Hurley curled a beautiful free kick into the net; Principia's first goal since its opener.
Principia's
Richard Bonsi scored his first goal of the season in the 75
th minute, utilizing both his and David "Joey" Bader's, who assisted, speed down the wings. Victory seemed to be inevitable for the Panthers, but Webster drew level at 2-2 with less than 30 seconds remaining after poor miss-clearances from Principia's defensive unit. The game ended with that score after double overtime, where Principia was unable to get any shots off.
Being so close to victory against a difficult conference opponent, Principia certainty left Soccer Park with a bitter taste in their mouth despite gaining their first points of the season. The Panthers will travel to Eureka College on Tuesday in hopes of rebounding from their draw and earning their first victory of 2015.
