Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Principia College women's soccer team kicked off their season with a win against Saint Louis School of Pharmacy resulting in a 3-0 victory on Tuesday, September 1st.
After a dodgy start, the Panthers settled into their style of play and exposed their opponent's defense in the 29th minute when
Emma Dixon made a pass inside the 18-yard box to
Emelie Fredrikson who placed the ball into the corner with composure. In the 33rd minute, Dixon made a pass back from the end line to hit Fredrikson at the PK spot where she shot and scored her second for the evening.
Shortly after the second goal, in the 34th minute, Dixon drove the ball towards the goal and took a shot which was deflected by the keeper and both Madi Arens and
Vanessa Ramirez-Jasso followed up crashing the net. Ramirez-Jasso was ultimately there to get the ball across the line to secure the 3rd and final goal for the night.
A few freshmen saw the field and made some great plays. Junior, Sam Bronkar, made an appearance in defense. All dressed players saw some playing time and players coming off the bench kept the intensity high, including Ramirez-Jasso,
Laura Cluthe and
Alexandra Weitman.
Initial minutes were frantic and resulted in a few too many turn-overs; however, Principia managed to dial down to play simply and make intelligent decisions to keep posession. At that point, the match shifted and Principia began to hold the ball, switch the point of attack, and see results by scoring.
The women look forward to their next match this weekend in Dallas, TX against University of Texas-Dallas, followed by a match against Mount St. Mary College.
