Box Score Greenville, IllIn a battle of the Panthers, Principia traveled to Greenville College to take on the nation's top scoring team. Principia knew they were in for a high scoring affair, and they were ready for the challenge. After being down as many as 11 in the first half, Principia clawed their way back to take 57-56 lead at the half. However, the second half belonged to the Panthers of Greenville, as their pressure wore down Principia. Doomed by 37 turnovers, Principia lost 129-100.
From the start, Principia seemed ready for the pace of play. Lead by
Adaku Anumu and
Parker Davidson, Principia stayed strong throughout the duration of the first half. After falling behind 38-27 at the 7:28 mark, Principia began to dominate the pace of play. Eventually, a
Parker Davidson lay up with 41 seconds remaining in the half put Principia up 57-50. The last 41 seconds proved to be catastrophic as Greenville scored six quick points to cut the lead to one at the break.
In the second half, Greenville's pressure forced Principia into careless turnovers. Despite Principia shooting 60% from the field, they were unable to keep up with Greenville due to the high volume of shots that they were giving up. Principia kept fighting to the final whistle, getting to the 100 point mark with 53 seconds to play on a
Kaylin Hernandez Beiner free throw. However, Greenville came away with the 129-100 victory.
Outstanding performances for the Panthers came from Anumu and Davidson. Anumu finished with 43 points and 7 rebounds while Davidson finished with 29 points and 10 rebounds. A great effort off the bench came from Steve Hammond with 6 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals.
