Well deserved victory for women's soccer

Box Score

GREENVILLE, IL-- Principia earned a well-deserved win tonight over the Greenville Panthers. Despite the wet and slippery field conditions, Principia controlled the ball calmly and quickly throughout the game; capitalizing on their scoring opportunities.

The first goal of the night was a great individual effort by Tanya Marquardt. Beating two players along the goal line, she found herself one-on-one with the Greenville goalie and passed the ball into the net with ease. Principia finished the half strong with a 1-0 lead and headed into the second half eager to score a few more.

In the 70th minute the Panthers' second goal, assisted by Rachel Perea, was scored by Clarice Bruch with a one-time shot from the top of the 18. Soon after, Greenville received their first corner kick of the game and scored off a header, making it a 2-1 game.

Principia responded quickly when Emelie Fredrikson took a free kick 30 yards out from goal in the middle of the field and sent in a beautiful ball over Greenville's defense to Clarice Bruch who fought off a defender and used her head to flick the ball over Greenville's charging goalie and into the net. The game ended with a final score of 3-1.

The women play again this Thursday at home against Spalding University at 6:00pm.
