Women's soccer fall hard to Washington University

Box Score

ELSAH, IL-- The Principia women's soccer team travelled to St. Louis today for a non-conference game against Washington University - a NCAA national champion team.

The Washington starting line-up came out fast and strong, scoring in the first minute of the game. The score grew higher and higher for Washington which left Principia feeling defeated at half-time. However, by the start of the second half the Principia women found their fire and took to the field ready to fight and rekindle their team cohesion.

Principia held Washington scoreless for the first 12 minutes as they began playing a tighter defense and making quicker offensive moves. Washington scored a few mores goals before the end of the game. Although Principia was unable to find the back of the net, the women did a great job holding off Washington's offense for the remainder of the game.

Stand-out performances include Rachel Perea for her constant tenacity and leadership on the field, and Libby Lewis for her strength and fearlessness in the box.

The women play their last home game of the season this Saturday against Eureka College at 1:00pm. It's Senior Day, so we will be celebrating our two seniors, Katie Swarts and Rachel Perea.
