Women's soccer falls to Fontbonne in final game of the season

Box Score ST. LOUIS, MO-- The women's soccer team traveled to Fontbonne today for their final game of the season.  It was a hot day and our women could not seem to shake off the heat which slowed their play.  Our midfield and backline could not seem to get into the attack or push up fast enough to apply pressure on the Fontbonne midfielders and defenders.  The panthers dictated the game when they were able to maintain possession and build an attack by playing feet.  The wind was on their side during the first half but were unable to use it to their advantage.  Fontbonne got the first goal, 12 minutes into the game by dribbling the ball endline and slotting it near post past the Principia defense.  The half ended with the panthers trailing by one goal.  The second half, the panthers were playing into the wind and could not seem to get out of their defensive third.  Fontbonne capitalized on their second goal when a panther defender made a soft pass back to the keeper which was picked off by a Fontbonne forward for the easy goal.  Fontbonne would beat the panthers 3-0.  It was an unfortunate way for the panthers to end the season because they are a better team than what showed up to play today.  The panthers finished fifth in conference.
