Heatbreak loss for women's soccer

Box Score ELSAH, IL-- The women faced off against Spalding University tonight for their third conference game of the season.  The women got off to a slow start, unable to find a rhythm as Splading locked Principia on their defensive thrid.  Principia caught a break, however, in the 11th minute when junior, Clarice Bruch sent a cross from the right and found Senior, Rachel Perea's head for the goal.  The lead was short lived when 10 minutes later, a Spalding forward broke through and passed out wide for an open shot.  The game was tied with Spalding continuing to pressure Principia on their half until once again, Spalding found the bakc of the net due to a lack of communication between Princpia's keeper and defender.  Nonetheless, Principia would not finish the half without sophomore, Laura Cluthe winning a 50-50 ball between the Spalding keeper with one minute remaining in the half for the 2-2 tie.

The second half, Principia came out with a bit more composure, keeping better possession and buidling an attack.  Their efforts would be denited as the second half endede with a tie sending the game into overtime.

The heartbreaaking moment would come when, two minutes into overtime, a Spalding forward broke through the defensive line took a shot that Principia keeper, Libby Lewis blocked but the ball would slowly trickle in.

The panters are now 1-2 in conference.   They travel to Iowa on Saturday to face off against Iowa Wesleyan for their fourth game.
