Men's Basketball loses high scoring affair to Greenville Panthers

Box Score

ELSAH, Ill. - This afternoon Men's Basketball hosted the Panthers of Greenville College in their latest conference match-up.  Having changed their style to run-and-gun this season, Greenville has been averaging well over 100 points this season, so the Panthers were looking to slow the game down.  And for the first ten minutes, Principia successfully did so, getting the necessary stops and converting at the other end.  Principia took a 12-6 lead early on in the half, but as it would turn out, this would be the largest lead they would have.  Neither team could take control of the game as the half wore on, trading baskets and both teams shooting free throws in the bonus early in the half.  But Greenville slowly took the lead, first tying the game at 14-14 around the 13 minute mark in the 1st half.  Their lead would only continue to grow as Greenville went on a 13-2 run to finish out the half.  Fortunately for Principe, sophomore captain Parker Davidson had come to play.  Davidson spent the first half handling the pressure, attacking the rim, and grabbing every rebound in sight to help keep the Panthers in the game.  A pair of Davidson free throws before the buzzer helped cut the Greenville lead to 13 before halftime, and the Panthers headed into the locker room down 55-42.

Unfortunately, Greenville came out hot to start the 2nd half, quickly growing their lead to twenty-points in the first ninety seconds before Principia found the bottom of the net.  This was a deficit that the Panthers found too large to recover from, and the Greenville lead would continue to balloon as the 2nd half proceeded.  Although Principia would cut back into the lead with a flurry of scoring down the stretch,  Greenville was able to take the victory and finish out their season sweep with a final score of 115-93.  Notable statistical contributions came from Davidson, who scored a season-high 33 points and grabbed 16 boards to turn in his latest of many double-double performances.

The Panthers play next this coming Tuesday, February 16th, at home versus Fontbonne University.  Tip-off is scheduled for a little after 8:00 pm, as Principia will be celebrating their seniors before the game.  Come out and show your support!
