Women’s Swim and Dive Team Win Final Dual Meet of the Season

JACKSONVILLE, IL – The Principia women's swimming and diving team won their final dual meet of the season against Illinois College, 97 – 82.  The win provides a high note as the women head into the final stretch of the season.
 
The women started off with a win in the 400 Medley relay.  The team of junior Bailey Bischoff, junior captain Shelby Barner, senior Dani McKenzie and freshman Allegra Pierce swam a 4:39.49 to easily outdistance their competitors.  Pierce then won the next event – the 1000 Free – in 12:11.97 to keep the women on top of the scoreboard.  In the 50 Free McKenzie won the event in 26.34 while Barner swam a season best 27.63 for third place.  McKenzie took her second win of the meet in the 100 Free with a 57.18 while freshman Gwen Battram swam a season best 1:16.39 for 5th place.
 
In the 100 Back, sophomore Amanda Loudon swam a season best 1:16.96 for a strong second place.  The very next event – the 500 free – saw Pierce earn her second win of the meet in 5:55.16.  Next up, Barner took her first win of the meet in the 100 Breast in 1:22.92.  The relay team of Pierce, Bischoff, Barner and McKenzie then finished off the meet with another win in the 200 Free relay in 1:49.67.
 
It was a solid showing and strong win for the women as the head into the final couple of weeks of their season.
 
The team will be off next week as they continue their taper into the final meet of the season.  They will host the Liberal Arts Championships starting Wednesday, Feb 10 through Saturday, Feb 13.  Morning sessions on Thursday through Saturday are at 10 am, while evening sessions every night start at 6 pm.
