Panthers Defeat Alfred State Before Falling to Washington College

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 Monday

Myrtle Beach, SC – The Panthers squared off against the Pioneers of Alfred State University (NY) on Monday evening. This was the Panthers' first game in Myrtle Beach, and the team played well in their opening game. The Panthers received solid pitching, sound defense, and timely hitting, en route to their 6-2 victory over the Pioneers.

Sawyer Grow received the nod on the mound and was excellent from start to finish. Grow fanned a career-high seven batters in five innings. He allowed just one earned run and did a phenomenal job of throwing strikes and keeping the defense engaged.

Alex Stamos threw the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings, and kept the Pioneers off the board. He threw very well and worked at a great pace. Aleq McMullin tossed the final frame for the Panthers and retired the side in order, 1-2-3.

The offense picked up where they left off against Crowley's Ridge College. Everyone in the starting lineup had a base hit, and Parker Davidson led way with three hits. Zach Grennie launched his second homerun of the season, as he sent the ball into orbit in the fifth inning. David Giorlando and Jake Kearney each doubled in the game, as well.

It was a very well-played overall baseball game, as the offense and defense was solid for the Panthers. The team will look to continue playing sound, fundamental baseball, and carry the momentum into Tuesday's series with Washington College (MD).

Tuesday

Game 1

Hunter Mehring started on the mound for the Panthers in game one on Tuesday against Washington College (MD). Washington College has been playing great baseball this season, as they've only lost one of their first ten games. Mehring pitched exceptionally well, especially considering this was his first outing this year. He threw four innings, allowed two runs, and struck out six.

Alex Stamos and Jake Kearney each pitched one inning in relief. Stamos struck out two in the fifth inning, while Kearney threw a scoreless sixth inning. Offensively, the Panthers were led by Connor Coyne, who had a pair of hits, including a double. Parker Davidson, Liam Foster, and Zach Grennie, each picked up an RBI.

A six-run sixth inning for Washington College ultimately put the game out of reach for the Panthers. The final score was 9-3, in favor of Washington College. However, the game was a lot closer than the final score may indicate.

Game 2

David McClelland started on the hill for the Panthers in the second game. He threw well, going five innings. Jake Kearney delivered another great outing in relief, as he tossed an inning and two-thirds, without giving up an earned run.

Hunter Mehring led the offensive charge, picking up a pair of base hits. David Giorlando, Jake Kearney, Aleq McMullin, and Jeff Ross, each chipped in with base hits as well. However, the Panthers were unable to string hits together, and were kept scoreless as a result.

Washington College won game two, 10-0. The Panthers will look to bounce back when they next play on Thursday, against Albertus Magnus College.
