La Mirada, CAThe Principia Men's Tennis Team played their second match of spring break on Tuesday against a tough opponent in Biola College. The men competed very hard on this hot afternoon, but the skill of the Biola players were too much to overcome, as Principia fell 9-0.
The match started with singles, and saw many of the Principia players play very well, despite the scores being in favor of Biola. At 6th singles,
Dan Wagstaff was able to dictate many points by hitting his heavy groundstrokes. Wagstaff pushed his opponent, but could not win enough of the big points to win the games. Wagstaff competed very well, but fell 6-3, 6-1. At 5th singles
Aaron Switzer also played very consistently. He frustrated his opponent by hitting his backhand down the line and closing at net. Unfortunately for Switzer, he was also unable to close out games despite having many opportunities. Switzer lost 6-1, 6-0. At 4th singles,
Brody Swan played a very solid first set. Swan was ale to find a rhythm and hit the ball well throughout most of this set. However, he was unable to keep up his play in the second set, losing 6-2, 6-0.
At 3rd singles
Nat Kenworthy played very well all match long. Kenworthy stood toe to toe with his opponent throughout, but his opponent seemed to always have one more ball than Kenworthy. Despite playing excellent points, Kenworthy was unable to make an impact on the scoreboard, losing 6-0, 6-1. At 2nd singles,
Jules Kitchingman also did well against a tough opponent. Kitchingman was able to earn a few games, but was unable to gain much traction against his hard hitting opponent. He fell 6-2, 6-1. At 1st singles,
Joey Sander played dictated play throughout the early portion of his match, as he won the first set 6-2. In the second set, Sander was up 4-3, but could not close his opponent out, as he fell 6-4 in the second set. In the third set tiebreaker, Sander played well to get out in front early, but his opponent fought hard to get back into the breaker and snatch the victory. Sander fell 2-6, 6-4, 10-8.
Despite being down 6-0 entering doubles, the men competed well in all of their doubles matches. At 1st doubles,
Joey Sander and
Brody Swan hit great groundstrokes, but were unable to close the points at net. They fell 8-3. At 2nd doubles,
Jules Kitchingman and
Aaron Switzer played hard, but were not completely in sync. They fell 8-2. At 3rd doubles,
Nat Kenworthy and
Dan Wagstaff had moments of great play, but were not consistent enough to win the games. They fell 8-2.
The Panthers have one more match on Spring Break against a yet to be determined opponent on Friday.
