Box Score Myrtle Beach, SC – The Panthers played their final game in Myrtle Beach this afternoon against the Alfred State Pioneers. The Panthers defeated the Pioneers earlier in the week, 6-2. The Panthers completed the sweep by taking today's game, 14-3.
Sawyer Grow was the starting pitcher today and this was his second game starting on the mound against the Pioneers this week. Even though the Pioneers had already seen Grow once before, they were still unable to figure him out. Grow pitched extremely well, going 5.1 innings, allowing just four hits and three runs.
Alex Stamos also pitched very well, pitching the final 3.2 innings, without surrendering any runs.
In addition to receiving outstanding pitching and defense, the Panthers also swung the bats very well today as well.
Connor Coyne had a perfect day at the plate, going 5-5 with a double and two RBI.
Jake Kearney added four hits, including a double and three RBI.
Parker Davidson,
Liam Foster, and
Bryce Murray each contributed with two hits.
Jeff Ross started a seven-run rally in the bottom half of the third innings by working a 10-pitch walk. Ross,
Hunter Mehring,
Zach Grennie, and
Aleq McMullin all had base knocks.
The Panthers combined for 19 hits on the day and played a tremendous all-around baseball game. It was a collective effort, as everyone on the team chipped in.
Liam Foster made an incredible diving play to his backhand side and then threw a runner out from his knees in the top of the eighth inning. There were several other defensive gems on the day. The Panthers played sound baseball today and will look to carry the momentum into their next games, which will be in Springfield, Illinois, on Tuesday, against Robert Morris-Springfield.
