Panthers Split Series with Robert Morris University

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Springfield, IL – The Panthers traveled north to Springfield, IL, on Tuesday to take on the Robert Morris Eagles in a two-game series. The Panthers split with the Eagles, as the Eagles took game one, 9-8, before the Panthers came back to take game two, 7-3.

Game 1

Jake Kearney received the start for the Panthers on the mound. He did a nice job of attacking hitters and throwing strikes all night long. However, he did not receive too much support from his fielders in the early innings, and as a result, the Panthers faced a 7-0 deficit after three innings. Parker Tibbetts entered in relief and delivered another great performance, as he pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless baseball.

Offensively, the Panthers were kept scoreless throughout the first four innings. However, they exploded for six runs in the top half of the fifth inning. Jeff Ross began the rally by ripping a single into right field. Connor Coyne, Hunter Mehring, Zach Grennie, and Bryce Murray, all had multi-hit performances in the first game as the Panthers tallied 10 hits and scored eight runs. However, it was not enough to earn the 'W,' as the Eagles stole game one, 9-8.

Game 2

David McClelland began the game on the hill for the Panthers. Despite a few early errors behind him in the first inning, McClelland settled in nicely and threw a brilliant game. He went 5.0+ innings, while only allowing one earned run. Parker Tibbetts once again came out of the bullpen and kept the Eagles at bay at the plate. Tibbetts did not allow any runs in his two innings of work.

On offense, the Panthers combined for seven runs on eight hits. Connor Coyne, Liam Foster, and Bryce Murray, each had multi-hit games. Parker Davidson and Aleq McMullin were the other Panthers to record a base hit in the second game.

The Panthers displayed grit and resilience in both games today. The team made many positive strides today. The Panthers once again received quality pitching from their starters and their bullpen. The bats were live as well. The Panthers will look to build off of this series as they will be facing a tough Spalding team this weekend at home. The Panthers next play this Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. versus the Spalding Golden Eagles.
