Box Score ELSAH, ILL. – The Panthers hosted the Golden Eagles of Spalding this evening in their home-opener. Spalding was the preseason favorite to win the SLIAC East division, as they have a potent lineup and a deep pitching staff. The Panthers played good baseball tonight, but could not complete the comeback, as they fell short, 6-4.
Sawyer Grow started on the mound for the Panthers and did a nice job. He threw 5.0+ innings and did good job through five. However, he ran into some trouble in the top half of the sixth inning. Grow competed well the whole time he was on the hill. Alex Stamos entered in relief and turned in his best outing of the season. Stamos tossed the final four innings of the game and only surrendered one hit. He struck out two along the way, and did not give up any free bases. Zach Grennie and Bryce Murray led the offensive attack, as they each picked up a pair of hits. Grennie also connected for his third round tripper of the season. Jake Kearney picked up a double and Connor Coyne was the only other Panther with a base hit. The Panthers had four errors in the field which did not help their cause. However, they received great pitching, and Stamos had a special night, with his stellar performance out of the pen. Look for the Panthers to fight back tomorrow as they play two more games against the Golden Eagles.
