A tough day for Panther Volleyball

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Greenville, ILL. -- Principia traveled to Greenville College to compete in their conference opener Quad against Eureka College and Greenville. The Panthers started the day with a hard fought five game match against a hard hitting, tough Eureka squad, and came out on the short end losing the deciding game 9-15.

The Panthers outhit EC .201 to .127, but lost the serve battle by 10 points.  The difference was that EC's match grew stronger – in fact the only game EC outhit PC was the deciding game (.211 to .050), and Principia's 5 hitting errors sealed their fate.
Emily Tippetts had an outstanding match with 20 kills (hitting.349), and she added five blocks as well. The defensive effort was sincere, with three Panthers digging in the double digits – Emma Herman (17), Nikki Matters (16), and Devon Marunde (15).  Emma was tough from the service line with three aces.

Principia took on a Greenville team filled with height and power, and lost in three straight games. The women knew what they needed to do to stay competitive, and when they executed they scored some points, but Greenville was consistently better today leading to their solid victory over Principia. Emily had another good offensive performance with 8 kills and zero errors hitting .347. Sara Stephenson hit 1000 with 4 kills in as many swings.

The Panthers have a big week coming up – facing  Webster Tuesday, Spalding Friday and Westminster and Blackburn on Saturday.
