Volleyball loses 1-3 to Gorloks

Box Score Webster Groves, MO. -- The Panthers started out the match playing some scrappy defense and holding the Gorloks offense back. After tying the first set 9-9, Principia really turned up the heat and executed well pulling to a 20-15 lead. Tough serving and smart hitting did the job enabling Principia to beat the Gorloks 25-22 in game one. The Panthers were plagued with too many passing and hitting errors in games two and three to ever get any momentum, however the women never gave in. They fought through the mess and had some glimpses of their best self. Game four was closer to the first game with Principia and Webster trading the lead several times before going down 17-20. Webster did a nice job of keeping the pressure on, and they transitioned quicker and more effectively than the Panthers which led to a 25-21 win over Principia to take the match.

The Panthers had a season best outing at the service line putting 92% in, and Nikki Matters and Emma Herman posted 1 and 2 aces respectively. Despite too many offensive errors, Emily Tippetts put down 8 kills with zero errors in 34 swings (.235) and Sophia Hathaway tallied 15 kills. Defensively the Panthers kept at it, but Webster's rampant offensive attack pushed Principia beyond effectiveness. Libero Mia Gill had a very good outing picking up 24 digs, and Sophia was right there with 17.

Principia Volleyball takes on Spalding University for their first home game this Friday night at 7pm in Hay Fieldhouse. See you there!
