Principia Takes Down Fontbonne

Box Score Saint Louis--The Panthers hit the road for their first conference game away from home in 2017 and came away with a victory. The Panthers came out strong and pulled away late to seal the victory 78-67 and secure their third conference win of the year. 

Senior Adaku Anumu got the Panthers on the board when he hit a 3-pointer to give the Panthers an early 3-2 lead. Just one possession later Anumu came down and hit another one from distance giving the Panthers a 6-4 lead three minutes into the contest. 

Freshman TreVaughn Goodman checked into the game and keyed a quick 4-0 run with a tough finish in the lane. Fontbonne battled back over the next few minutes tying the game at 13 a piece with 12:02 remaining in the first. 

Over the next seven minutes the Panthers went on a 11-3 run. The run started with another Goodman layup, a 3-pointer from junior Parker Davidson, and then finished and highlighted by an emphatic dunk by senior Justin Ball.

The Griffins wouldn't go away however and went on a run to take the lead 27-25 with 2:45 left. The Panthers got the lead back quickly though with back to back layups by Goodman and sophomore Micah Paulson. The Panthers didn't relinquish the lead again in the half and went to the break leading by a score of 35-31.

The Panthers opened up the second half on a mission scoring consecutive buckets that featured nice ball movement and strong finishes by Ball and Anumu. 

The Panthers began to steadily build a lead and with 11:51 had pushed it to 8 on a nice drive and bucket from Sophomore Kaylin Hernandez-Beiner. 

Fontbonne hung in the game though and cut the lead to 4 with 7:35 left. The Panthers immediately responded with a 6-0 run via 3 layups, two from Paulson and one from Davidson to make the score 64-54.

Principia continued to extend the lead after that getting it as high as 13 at one point. The Panthers converted on enough free throws down the stretch to take care of business and come out with a 78-67 victory. 

Anumu led the Panthers with 18 points. Ball had 16 points to go along with 6 rebounds. Davidson continued to impress with another double-double scoring 14 and collecting 14 rebounds as well. Goodman had 11 points and 6 assists off the bench. 

Next up the Panthers travel to MacMurray to take on the Highlanders in a conference battle.
