Greenville, IL. -- The Women's Basketball team traveled to Greenville University to play Illinois College in their opening game of the season.
The Panthers began the game with a 14-4 lead but Illinois College came back to go ahead in the second quarter. Principia fought back and led at halftime by a score of 26-25.
The Panthers led most of the second half but ended up losing by one point. Libby Lewis did have a breakaway layup that would have won the game but the buzzer went off right before she got off the shot. The team gave it their all and played well defensively.
Key moment:
Sophia Hathaway led the Panthers in scoring with 22 points and Megan Selby hit two important threes in the first half. Hannah Hathaway made some key defensive rebounds.
Good to know:
This game marks the first game for Principia Women's basketball since 2015.
They said it:
"I was so impressed with the hustle and hard work by the players tonight. They may have run out of steam, but they pressed on and gave it their all. It was a great start to the season, although I know they would have loved to win. They will get the next one!"
