Fenton, MO. -- Principia Men's Soccer traveled to St. Louis to take on Webster University in the Semi Finals of the SLIAC Playoffs on Wednesday evening. Both teams came into the game fairly evenly matched as their previous match ended in a 1-1 tie.
The game started off a little frantic as Principia tried to get their hold on the game. Webster got their best chance of the game right off the bat with a low shot to the corner. The Panthers were able to sustain the quick start by Webster and went on to dominate possession for the game. Both teams battled hard but Principia created the most offensive chances. In the second half a serious of 4 straight corner kicks very nearly got the goal that Prin was looking for.
The game went into double OT and finished with a deadlock at 0-0. This forced penalty kicks to determine a winner. Senior
Briggs Hurley calmly stepped to the stripe and knocked in the first PK to set the tone. After Webster tied it at 1-1,
Carson Hussey was able to make it 2-1 with a solid hit. Principia goalie
Matt Jones was able to save Webster's second PK to give them the advantage.
Kaleb Keller didn't blink as he knocked home the third for the 3-1 advantage. Webster went on to miss their third PK wide giving
David McCook the chance to win it. He did just that giving Principia a 4-1 win in penalties and a chance to play in the SLIAC Championship Friday night.
They Said It:
"We showed a lot of heart tonight and felt we were the better team throughout. As amazing as the moment was when we won, we are not satisfied and are focused on the game Friday."
