Elsah, ILL. – The Women's Basketball team played their first home game of the season against Washington University's Club Team after another team's late cancellation. The Panthers were so appreciative of Wash. U. Club agreeing to play this game with short notice. Washington University has a large student body and very successful athletic teams and thus have a very strong club program.
The Panthers stayed close to Wash U. the first quarter but had a rough second quarter putting them behind 15-26 at half. They came back and won both the 3
rd and 4
th quarters but were not able to make up the points.
The Panthers out rebounded Wash U. with 53 total rebounds and shot 88 % from the free throw line. Turnovers continue to be an area that the team must improve upon in order to win.
Key moment:
Sophia Hathaway led the Panthers in scoring with 17 points and 20 rebounds. Hannah Hathaway and Megan Selby each contributed 8 points.
Good to know:
This was Sophia Hathaway's only home game of the season as she will be on the New Zealand Abroad after Christmas break. Her teammates will miss her!
They said it:
"Unfortunately, the second quarter hurt us as we were unable to make up the points in the second half. The ladies worked hard and fought to the end and will continue to improve."
