JACKSONVILLE, IL. —The Principia College Men's Swimming team on Saturday traveled to Illinois College for a quad meet against Illinois College, Knox College, and Millikin University.
The meet was scored as three separate dual meets, and Principia came out 1-2. The team beat Knox College (99-45); however, Illinois College (77-120) and Millikin University (67-99) handed us our first losses of the season.
To begin the meet, junior captain
Andrew Boyd, sophomore
Liam Anderson, junior captain
Garrett Barner, and freshman
Josh Williams swam the 200 Medley Relay for a combined time of 1:54.80, which was good for second place. Boyd swam the first length Back (28.21), Anderson Breaststroke (31.97), Barner Fly (26.13), and Williams Free (28.49).
Once the 1650 Freestyle concluded, Barner was back in the water for the 200 Freestyle and swam it with a time of 2:04.60, securing second place in the event. Soon after the 200 Free, the 100 Back happened. Both Boyd (1:00.93) and Williams (1:15.33) took second and third with very strong swims. Anderson stepped up right after them to compete in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:11.47.
Walker Hannigan took first in the 200 Fly, out touching three others with a time of 2:14.02. The next man was three seconds behind Hannigan.
The 50 Free was filled with competition. There were 10 men that competed, three being Boyd, Anderson, and Williams. Boyd had a time of 24.71, Anderson 25.26, and Williams a 28.37.
Once again, three of our men competed in the next event—100 Free. There were 11 men total, our three being Hannigan, Barner, and Williams. Hannigan ended with a time of 55.49, Barner 55.72, and Williams a 1:02.23.
Boyd took first in the 200 Back with a time of 2:19.45, out beating one other by about 4-5 seconds. The 200 Breast was soon after which Anderson was competing in. Anderson came in fourth with a time of 2:44.24.
After a few events with none of our men swimmers involved, we jumped back into the competition with the 100 Fly. Barner swam a 58.95 and Hannigan a 1:00.96.
The team finished up the meet with the 200 Free Relay. Boyd (24.48), Anderson (25.04), Barner (24.68), and Hannigan (23.90) gave it their all and came out with a combined time of a 1:38.10.
Key Moments:
All five of the men that participated in the meet today gained a season best and some unshaved lifetime bests. Sophomore
Liam Anderson had a season best and unshaved lifetime best on his 100 Breast. He also had an unshaved lifetime best for the 200 Breast. Junior captain
Garrett Barner had three season bests in the 200 Free, 100 Fly, and the 50 Fly Relay split when swimming the 200 Medley Relay. Junior
Walker Hannigan had a season best in his 100 Fly and an unshaved lifetime best in his 100 Free. Freshman
Josh Williams had four season bests in the 100 Back, 50 Free, 100 Free, and his 50 Free split in the relay. Lastly, junior captain
Andrew Boyd had two season bests in the 100 Back and the 50 Free; three unshaved lifetime bests in the 50 Back, 100 Back, and 200 Back; and one lifetime best in the 200 Back. Overall, the team did amazing and came away with many accomplishments!
