Women's Swimming goes 0-3 in quad meet

JACKSONVILLE, IL.—The Principia College Women's Swimming team on Saturday traveled to Illinois College for a quad meet against Illinois College, Knox College, and Millikin University.
 
The meet was scored as three separate dual meets, and Principia came out 0-3. Illinois College (35-110), Knox College (48-124), and Millikin University (32-158) handed us our first three losses of the season.
 
To begin the meet, freshman Elizabeth Hull, freshman Lydia Pierce, sophomore Katie Lovegren, and sophomore Glynnis Harley swam the 200 Medley Relay for a combined time of 2:35.47. Hull swam the first length Back (55.65), Pierce Breaststroke (34.36), Lovegren Fly (34.69), and Harley Free (30.77).
 
Once the 1650 Freestyle concluded, Lovegren was back in the water for the 200 Freestyle and swam it with a time of 2:30.54. Soon after the 200 Free, the 100 Back happened. Harley (1:16.87) took third. Pierce stepped up right after to compete in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:21.00 and securing second place.
 
The 50 Free was filled with competition. There were 16 women that competed, three being Pierce, Harley, and Hull. Pierce had a time of 29.64, Harley 31.05, and Hull a 46.68.
 
Once again, the three women in the 50 Free and Lovegren competed in the next event—100 Free. There were 17 women total, our four being Pierce, Harley, Lovegren, and Hull. Pierce ended with a time of 1:04.82, Harley 1:08.40, Lovegren 1:11.42, and Hull a 1:48.45.
 
After a few events with none of our women swimmers involved, we jumped back into the competition with the 500 Free. Lovegren swam a 6:38.90, which was about7 seconds faster than her seed time.
 
The team finished up the meet with the 200 Free Relay. Hull (46.95), Harley (31.61), Lovegren (32.97), and Pierce (28.73) gave it their all and came out with a combined time of a 2:2026.
 
Key Moments: 
All four of the women who participated in the meet today gained a season best on many of their swims. Sophomore Glynnis Harley had a season best on both her 100 Back and 100 Free. Freshman Elizabeth Hull had two season bests as well on her 50 Free and 100 Free. Freshman Lydia Pierce had three season bests for her 100 Breast, 100 Free and her 50 Free Relay split time. Sophomore Katie Lovegren wrapped up the season bests with her 500 Free. Overall, the team did amazing and came away with many accomplishments!

Up Next:
The Women's Swimming team will be hosting their first home meet of the season against Lidenwood-Belleville and Lincoln College on November 11th at 1pm in Crafton.
