Owings Mills, MD. -- Principia's sandy Panthers went 1-1 on day one of match play at Stevenson University in Owings Mills, Maryland with a loss to host Stevenson and a win against Morgan State University.
Principia knew they needed to play boldly to have a chance at Stevenson, but there were too many errors for the Panthers to stay competitive. Stevenson did a nice job with tough serving at the Panthers, making it difficult for Prin to side out, giving Stevenson too many runs off of their serve. SU also had a beautiful mixture of swings and shots, forcing the Panthers to work super hard to keep the ball flying.
In match number two against Morgan State University (MSU), the Panthers were in the driver's seat all the way. Principia was the team with the most beach training, and it paid off! The Panthers served tough to keep MSU out of system, and then patiently waited with a smart offense until they found the open sand or forced errors from MSU. Five of the six teams won in 2 straight sets, with one team losing game one and coming back to take control of the match and grab the "w".
