Chicago, IL. – Principia Men's soccer played their second game of two back-to-back games against the strong Elmhurst College Blue Jays today. A slow start for the Panthers proved to be the deciding factor in the score line as the Blue Jays jumped to a 3-0 lead within the first 10 minutes of the game. After a few halftime adjustments, Principia settled into the game and played a solid second half but unfortunately could not close the gap and finished the game at a 4-0 loss.
After being jumped in the first 10 minutes of the game, Principia was able to gather themselves and fight back for the remainder of the game. Sophomore Gabriel Ferreira Theodoro provided one of the best chances of the game with a spirited run up the left wing followed by a shot that was thwarted by the Blue Jay keeper. David McLeod-Warrick stepped in at left back, a position he has never played, and help play a physical lock down defense against the fast wingers.
Good to know
Elmhurst college returned 10 of its 11 starters from last season providing an experienced disciplined team. Senior goal keeper Nick King anchored their defense and has been an All-Conference and All-Region goal keeper for the past two seasons.
They said it
"The score doesn't dictate how we played, you can tell it is still early in the season and we have work to do. Following the bad start to the game we were able to adjust well and produce multiple good scoring chances in the second half. We have a lot of good to take into this week of practice."
