ELSAH, IL. —As the Principia College Women's Swimming team wrapped up Friday night's meet, they were back at it this Saturday morning competing in a duel meet against Maryville University. Due to having the high school order of events the night before, this meet included the 50's, of each stroke, 100 IM, 100 Free, 200's of each stroke, 500 Free, and the 1000 Freestyle.
To begin the meet, sophomore Glynnis Harley, freshman Lydia Pierce, sophomore Katie Lovegren, and freshman Elizabeth Hull swam the 200 Medley Relay for a combined time of 2:26.39. Harley swam the first length Back (35.66), Pierce Breaststroke (36.83), Lovegren Fly (33.48), and Hull Free (40.42).
Once the 200 Medley Relay concluded, Lovegren (13:19.32) swam the 1000 Free. During the race Lovegren secured a 1st place and gained a season best, unshaved lifetime best, and lifetime best with this time.
As the 1000 Free came to a close, the meet continued and headed into the 50 Back and the 50 Breast. Both Harley (35.81) and Hull (51.91) swam the 50 Back, which were strong swims for them. They both achieved a season best for their times. Soon after, Pierce swam the 50 Breast with a time of 37.48, which secured a 2nd place.
Before 1 Meter Diving began, the teams wrapped up the swims with the 50 Freestyle. Both Harley (30.06) and Hull (41.89) swam the race and locked in 2nd and 3rd place. Harley also achieved a season best for this race!
After a short break and 1 Meter Diving, the women were gearing to go! Pierce (1:02.76), Lovegren (1:10.11), and Hull (1:35.64) all swam the 100 Free strong. After a few events in between, Pierce was back in the water swimming the 200 Breaststroke. Pierce came into the wall with a time of 2:49.63 and gained a 1st place for the team. This was the first time she had swum the race, so it will be exciting to see where she goes with it!
After the 500 Free, Lovegren stepped up to the blocks and swam the 50 Fly with a time of 34.95, which gained the team another 1st place. Soon after Harley finished up the individual swims with her time of 1:17.96 in the 100 IM.
After another short break and 3 Meter Diving, the meet finished up with the 200 Freestyle Relay. Harley took on the first length with a time of 30.17, Lovegren the second with a 31.58, Pierce the third with a 28.19, and lastly Hull with a 42.43. These were fast swims and Hull once again gained a season best on his split.
Overall, this meet prepared the team for Liberal Arts due to being back-to-back days with the Washington University Invite. Also, the women were able to pull out some fast swims to achieve the team's goal of 11 bests with the Men's team.
