Elsah, ILL. -- The Women's Basketball team played Lewis and Clark Community College at home and it was the second time these two teams met this year.
The Panthers were determined not to get beat by 43 points, as they did in the first contest. While still outscored by Lewis and Clark, Principia played tough defense holding them to 24 fewer points. Lewis and Clark plays an up-tempo game and the Panthers kept them to shooting 32% from the field.
A look at the box score:
Nikki Matters led the team once again in scoring with 15 points and the Panthers shot 10 for 15 from the free throw line. Principia had 44 rebounds against a much taller team, but turnovers caused by the Lewis and Clark press hurt the Panthers.
Nikki Matters and
Hannah Hathaway led the team in rebounds.
Good to know:
Lewis and Clark is a team that was 10-2 coming into this contest and it was a good opportunity for the Panthers to play a tough opponent. It was the first game for
Tanya Marquardt, a senior point guard.
They said it:
"Our goal was to not allow Lewis and Clark to get close to scoring 80 points as they did in our first contest. We held them to 60 but we still need to score more and tonight our turnovers hurt us. I am proud of the improvement the players made."
